The Chemical Engineering Capstone project is a showcase of work involving common chemical manufacturing equipment. This project highlights the practical application of chemical engineering principles and the ability to effectively work on a team, with the equipment used in the industry.

PLC Tank P&ID

For this lab our team programed a logic controller to manage the filling and draining of a liquid storage vessel.

Jacketed Mixing Tank Cooling

For our jacketed mixing tank lab we were challenged to find a creative way to cool the solution of calcium carbonate in water without changing the concentration. This meant that ice could not be added to drive the cooling of each experimental run. I came up with the idea of using dry ice to cool the solution at the end of each run. Adding the dry ice cooled the liquid without altering the concentration so that subsequent trials could be conducted at the same concentration to achieve a standard distribution from the data collected. Keeping safety in mind, the dry ice was added such that the gas produced would not overwhelm the lab space.
